The Midlothian Area Chamber of Commerce requested permission to hold the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Santa Parade on Saturday, December 7,2002 with the parade stepping off at 3.30 PM from Mid-Oak Plaza and Grill's Hardware enroute to the Village Green for the Tree Lighting, followed by the traditional cookies and cocoa in the Fire Station. By copy of the letter Lenny Feil, Executive Director of the Chamber was asking for assistance and cooperation from the Midlothian Police Department with the parade.
President Murawski entertained a motion granting permission as requested.
Motion made by Trustee Kreis, seconded by Trustee Wilkins. All ayes. Motion carried.

Annual Antiques Program

The wildly popular annual antiques program will take place on Thursday, November 4th, at 7 PM in the Midlothian Public library's meeting room. Mary Beth Gannon Keegan will discuss the art of identifying antiques and their value. We encourage each person to bring one item (or a picture of a large item) of interest for discussion. Come discover your family's treasure. This annual program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

St. Stephen Lutheran Church "Feet For Food"

The parishioners of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, are trying to do something to help the needy. They are holding the 2nd Annual "Feet for Food" UST&F certified 5K run/walk fast course with rolling hills in Midlothian on Saturday, November 27 beginning at 8 AM. This fundraiser will benefit the St. Stephen Lutheran Church Food Pantry so that it can continue helping the people of the community in need.
Registration/entry frees are as follows:
$20 for registration after August 15, 2010
$10 for children's race (ages 10 and under).
Check-in time and same day registration (cash only) from 6-7:45 AM on Saturday, November 27th. Parking at St. Christopher's lot.
This event is for all ages, race chip-timed; there is a non-competitive 2K race; awards are given by age group; raffle prizes; refreshments; T-shirts & goody bags; secure personal item check. October 3-9 was 2010 Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme was "Smoke Alarms - A Sound You Can Live With!" Fire Prevent Week 2010 focused on educating people about the importance of smoke alarms and encouraging everyone to take the necessary steps to update and maintain their smoke alarm protection. Smoke Alarms save lives. Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.
1. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.
2. Test smoke alarms at least monthly by pushing the test button.
3. Smoke rises. Install alarms high on a wall or on a ceiling.
4. Replace batteries in all smoke alarms at least once a year.
5. Be sure the smoke alarm has the label of a recognized testing laboratory.
6. If cooking fumes or steam sets off nuisance alarms, replace the alarm with an alarm that has a "hush" button to reduce the alarm's sensitivity for a short period of time.
7. An ionization alarm with a hush button or a photoelectric alarm should be used if the alarm is within 20 feet of a cooking appliance.
8. Smoke alarms that include a recordable voice announcement in addition to the usual alarm sound may be helpful in waking children through the use of a familiar voice.
9. Smoke alarms are available for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. These devices use strobe lights. Vibration devices can be added to these alarms.
A highlight of Fire Prevention Week was the Midlothian Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. Our firefighters wore their chef's hats as well as their fire hats. They do an excellent job cooking up pancakes, sausage, and all the trimmings for you and your family to enjoy and everybody had a great time.

When you are passing by the Village Green, stop and check out the art gallery along 147th Street.

Saturday evening, August 28 was a nice, cool evening with really "cool" music being present at the 2nd annual Bluegrass Concert, featuring Forest View Express. The band entertained the audience for over 3 hours under the stars. Refreshments were varied and plentiful. The Diner, 2 Sisters Custard, Ken & Dick's Pizza, Are U Nuts, and a fine array of sweets offered for sale by the Community Service Committee meant that no one went hungry. It was a great, relaxing evening for Midlothian families.

Actually, it was the Eve of Fiesta, Tuesday, July 13th, that St. Chris offered the use of their facilities for the Village of Midlothian to celebrate. The proceeds from the Beer Garden were graciously turned over to Midlothian to inaugurate a fund that will hopefully result in a Gazebo being built on the Village Green. The fund is intended to raise money for all supplies, with labor being volunteered by Midlothian residents as a community project. The very popular band, ARRA, performed and the turnout was good for this first ever Midlothian Night. Prior to ARRA taking the state, a group of "Village People" lip-synced to the old standard "YMCA." From all reports, there is little worry that any of our "Village People" will be going on to careers in the entertainment industry.
