Chief William Sheehy would like all residents to be aware of the following conditions that will require the activation of the severe weather warning system. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Fire Department at 489-4742.
When a Severe Weather Warning or Tornado Warning is issued, the Village of Midlothian Severe Weather Warning System will be activated. During emergencies, residents will hear a 3-5 minute steady signal of the sirens. When you hear the siren and are unsure what they are sounding for, go indoors and turn your radio to one of the Emergency Broadcast Stations, and listen for essential emergency information. DO NOT CALL 911 or local fire and police agencies to ask why the sirens are sounding. If it is an emergency, they are busy getting equipment and manpower to the emergency scene.
Once the warning system is activated, it will not be reactivated for the same incident. The warning system will only be reactivated for new, confirmed incidents.
In keeping with the policy of the National Weather Service, the Village of Midlothian will not issue the all clear for any alert signal for a weather warning. Residents requesting all clear information are adivsed to monitor commerical radio and television for further weather information. No activation of the outdoor warning signals will be used to indicate the cancellation of a weather watch or warning, or for any all clear advisory.
The disaster warning system is NOT activated for severe weather WATCHES.
The Warning System will be tested on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM.
