National Public Works Week

May 17-23 was National Public Works Week.  It reminds us to thank the guys and one gal in our Public Works Department for all the thankless jobs they do so well throughout the year.  Their jobs are certainly not glamorous, but where would we be without them!  They keep our water flowing both in and out, maintain our village streets (it should be noted that Cicero and 147th Street are maintained by the State of Illinois and Pulaski and Kedzie are maintained by Cook County), trim trees on parkways, and just about every job that is taken for granted.  They are the housekeepers of the village and, like housekeepers in our own homes, they get little thanks or praise.  They are dedicated, hard-working, and professional.  They are called out to work anytime, day or night, whatever the weather, and they never complain.  They deserve a pat on the back, even if it is only once a year during Public Works Weeks.  Thanks PW!
