Chat With the Chief

* It is believed in good faith that the following content can be found in the Fall 2010 edition of the Tartan Tidings and is for general reference and/or research purposes only.  For further information regarding the information listed here, please contact The Village of Midlothian in Midlothian, Illinois. *

In this issue of the Tartan Tidings I am going to talk about the police department's, Community Service Officer, (CSO) program that has joined with the Community Policing Committee (CPC) in order to achieve mutual goals.

This past spring the first annual charity golf outing was held.  Funds from this effort help to create financial resources to fund additional projects like the D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. programs for our school age children, and purchase of the blue shirts that identify the CPC people making them easily recognizable on their community walks.  The parade of lights (emergency vehicle blessing) went well with children lining the streets to observe the passing emergency cehicles.  The National Night Out had the community taking a stand against crime.  DEA, Midlothian Police and CPC worked together on a prescription drug take-back program.  This effort was a monumental success as we were give 5-boxes for prescription drug return and had to get an additional 5 boxes.  Midlothian turned out to be one of the most successful, if not the most succsesful program in the south suburban area.  This was all capped off with the delivery of pizzas, donated by Bartolini's, to all the families of the youngsters who were winners in the National Night Out drawing.

Soon the bids will be in for the renovation of the police station.  We expect the renovation to start sometime in early November.  When the renovation begins, please be patient with construction issues as all of us will be working udner very challenging conditions

We have held up publication of the Tartan Tidings in order to get pictures of these events included in this issue such as Sgt. Edmund Olmos with the Step by Step kids and Officer Ryan Gulli with the CPC National Night Out 2010 winner.  I am cutting this edition of Chat with the Chief short to allow more room for pictures.

Schools are in session so please be mindful of children in or near the streets and please come to a full stop at stop signs, especially Halloween night.  Additional police officers, E.S.D.A. and CPC personnel will be on the street Halloween day and night.

Vince J. Schavone
